Q1 & Q2 2024 Update: Another Source Commitment to Dismantling Systemic Inequality in Recruiting

Jun 2024

Marcie Glenn

At Another Source, we are steadfast in our commitment to dismantling systemic inequality in recruiting (DSIR). As we reflect on the first half of 2024, we are proud to share the progress and milestones achieved by our dedicated team. Our efforts are driven by a deep-seated belief in creating an inclusive and equitable recruiting environment for all. Here is an update on the strides we have made from Q1 to Q2 2024.

Re-Establishment of the DSIR Committee

In Q1 of 2024,  we invited new team members to join the 2024 DSIR committee, invigorating our commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable recruiting environment.

Educational Initiatives and Activities

Over the first six months of 2024, we implemented a structured education framework, featuring a combination of monthly speakers and bi-weekly Q&A or activity sessions during our huddles. Here are some highlights:

  1. Monthly All Hands Meetings:
    • We committed to having four external speakers throughout the year to enhance our team’s education and awareness. So far, Cody Horton has joined us, focusing on diversity and AI.
    • Topics covered include:
      • Celebrating and honoring Black History Month.
      • Understanding generational diversity and tailoring job postings and benefit statements to engage all generations.
      • Constructing a DSIR timeline that tracks our commitment and progress since 2019 to provide new and existing team members with context and reflection on our DSIR journey, ensuring they understand and feel safe to participate.
  2. Interactive Activities:
    • Role-playing sessions to prepare candidates for success, particularly addressing when unconscious bias presents itself during the presentation of candidate.
    • A team quiz on unconscious bias to raise awareness.
    • To honor Juneteenth, we conducted a trivia session during our Juneteenth huddle. This session aimed to educate our team on the history, significance, and customs of Juneteenth, helping to deepen our understanding of this important holiday. Did you know that Poppy flower is representative of Juneteenth?  Ask one of our teammates and they’ll share more about it.

Partnerships and Presentations

  • Cabrillo College Partnership: Presented “How Generational Diversity Impacts Recruitment and Retention” at the annual ACBO conference in Monterey, CA, alongside Bradley D. Olin, Ed.D., Cabrillo College’s Assistant Superintendent/VP of Finance & Administrative Services.
  • NACAS West CX Conference: Marcie presented on the same topic at the NACAS West CX Conference in Sonoma in June 2024, focusing on the unique perspectives and expectations each generation brings to the workforce, offering strategies for inclusive recruitment processes.

Technological Advancements

  • BrightHire Partnership: In January 2024, we partnered with BrightHire, an interview intelligence platform that uses AI to support conversations with clients and candidates. BrightHire records kickoff calls and interviews, handling manual note-taking, allowing our team to focus on recruitment strategies. This ensures valuable information is accessible to team members unable to attend scheduled calls.
    • Ensuring AI Integrity: BrightHire’s AI does not recommend, rate, score, or rank candidates, thus avoiding bias. The platform includes controls for accuracy, extensive testing, and ongoing quality monitoring. Users can verify AI output accuracy through direct links to underlying context.

Expanded Awareness and Sourcing Strategies

  • We expanded our awareness of diversity sourcing strategies using ChatGPT, enhancing our ability to identify and engage diverse candidate pools.

This comprehensive approach demonstrates Another Source’s unwavering commitment to dismantling systemic inequality in recruiting. We continue to build on our efforts, striving to create a more inclusive and equitable hiring process.
