TEDx: How to Ikigai by Tim Tamashiro

Jan 2023

Marcie Glenn

What are you hoping to accomplish this January as we celebrate and welcome another year? If you are in the process of any major transitions, whether at work or personally (nod your head if you are job searching), it is pivotal to find meaning or purpose in life. Easier said than done, right?

This month, Another Source will explore different ways of identifying purpose at work. In this TED talk, jazz musician and former CBS radio host Tim Tamashiro elaborates upon a Japanese principle called ikigai. Loosely translated as “life’s worth,” this concept provides a practical framework for you to understand how your passion, skillsets, and work should align.

Finding your life’s purpose

If you would like to learn more about this concept, Tamashiro is the author of the book How to Ikigai: Lessons for Finding Happiness and Living Your Life’s Purpose.

We’ll leave you with this quote from the presentation:

“Your meaningful life is not a destination you have to get to. Your meaningful life is something you can enjoy right now and anytime you want to.”
