About AAPI Heritage Month:

AAPI Heritage Month first began in 1979 as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. In 1992, Congress expanded this recognition to the full month of May, in commemoration of both the first Japanese immigrants to the United States (1843) and the completion of the transcontinental railroad, the majority of whose workers were Chinese immigrants (1869).
