Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15th through October 15th, 2022. This year, the theme for Hispanic Heritage Month is “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” Here are some fast facts about the celebration:
- September 15th commemorates the independence days of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
- Hispanic Heritage Month began as a one-week celebration in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson. It was expanded to a full month by George H.W. Bush in 1989.
- Around 1/5 of the US population is Hispanic. California is the state with the largest Hispanic and Latinx population (over 14 million).
